This piece is inspired by the work of Spanish impressionist painter Antonio Muñoz Degrain. Each of the three movements draws inspiration from one of his paintings:
I. Bathing of the Nymphs
II. Echoes of Roncesvalles
III. View of the Alhambra
It is scored for reed quintet consisting of oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, bass clarinet, and bassoon. The music is presented in a highly colorful, impressionistic style, demanding great virtuosity from each player.
